How to create 2 Beginner Dashboards that will GROW your productivity in ClickUp!

So you’re new to click up and want to figure out how to use the dashboards feature, but don’t know  how? 

I’m going to show you how to create two  beginner ClickUp dashboards that will easily fit into your everyday routine and increase your productivity. 

Dashboard #1 The Brain Dumping Dashboard: 

Now let’s dive into the Brain Dumping Dashboard as  being one of the easiest dashboards to create.

 As you can see from the picture above.  I have four text box widgets. 

To add these widgets follow these steps: 

  • Click the “add widget” button to the top right of the dashboard 
  • Scroll down and you can see text block. 
  • Add 4 of these and place them according to the dashboard grid. 
  • Give the widget a name.
    • business partner projects
    • client external projects
    • marketing projects. 
    •  I have another one for my click up IRL subscription group

Now, what you can do is use the slash command for banner. “Slash” [/banner]  And this is how you can give it color to differentiate what each box is for. It’s like putting in a mini SOP. (Standard Operating Procedure) 

Then you can use the slash command while you’re typing inside each individual box. You can do a “slash” [/check] for the checklist items. 

You  can also  highlight the individual tasks to bring up the text editor. 

Select text to bring up the text editor and convert it to a task to take action!

Then create new tasks to make them  into actionable items. You can select what lists they need to go to, or what space inside your click up workspace. 

You can assign it priorities due dates and a person directly from these texts block widgets using the text editor.  

What I also suggest is that you keep this dashboard private and  personal so that you have one central location to bring it up every day and you can add this as a sub task into your daily method of operation. 

My pro tip is to have  a business brain dumping dashboard, and  a personal brain dumping dashboard.

That way you  can easily separate those areas of your life. 

The different textboxes I separate my personal brain dumping dashboard into are: 

  • household projects, 
  • personal projects/self care 
  • family or kids projects or ideas
  • priority or personal tasks

 Whatever you do make sure you keep in mind that you cannot access your dashboards on mobile. I know it’s a bummer, but you can access the docs home on mobile and you can brain dump into a document here and then convert it to your dashboard.

Dashboard Number 2:  The meeting dashboard.

Let’s do a deep dive into the widgets and how I use them and where to find them the first two widgets. 

Again, these are text boxes. You can go up to add a widget and it’s highlighted on featured widgets  and it’s the bottom left corner. 

 The agenda quick view just uses a slash command.  “Slash” [/embed] Then you paste the public link to the weekly focus call template. If you don’t already have this template, you can get it here. 

 The meeting document repository has the zoom link with a slash command “slash” [/button] for a button.

You type the command then select the button option. Then you go ahead and you paste in your zoom meeting link. 

And then what I do is I put the dates and I just copy the direct links without an embed. This makes it a list of previous meeting notes that people can check on and visit.

The next widget is a chat widget. 

You can go up to add a widget and you can go down under featured. It located right next to the text block and you click chat. 

This will load the chat widget and you can name it, whatever you’d like. Just remember anyone that’s shared with this dashboard can communicate in this chat box. 

Now the meeting schedule is an embedded widget of a publicly shared calendar view. You add the title and then you paste the public link inside this box and then click add widget. 

The last widget here is a project portfolio with folders.  Its located in the Widget library  right above the text block widget. You can name the portfolio. You can add your folders from your different spaces. You can choose other different settings. 

You do need to know that the portfolio widget is one of the widgets that’s only offered using the business plan.

So that brings me to my Pro Tip:

 When using dashboards, you are only limited to a hundred uses of dashboards on the free forever plan. You may experience some limitations when using certain widgets. If you’re planning on using dashboards, I highly recommend that you upgrade to the business plan for the best use and the most efficiency I’m currently using the business plan. And I have no limitations and access to every widget.
