The 6 Common ClickUp Pain Points & How to Solve Them
In this post, I’ll address 6 common pain points my clients have when using ClickUp and their solutions. And don’t worry, these solutions & recommendations are free of charge!
Pain Point #1:
I don’t know how to create tasks from my brain dumps, or break them out into subtasks from task descriptions.
Create tasks and subtasks by typing in text inside a task description or from a textbox straight on the brain dump dashboard.
- You can type in text in a task description or from a text box, highlight the text, right-click, and then select + New task.
- You can create subtasks by typing in text in the task description, highlighting them, right-click, and then select + New Subtask.

Pain Point #2:
Navigating ClickUp takes too many clicks to get to all the places I need to be.
Use pinned favorites and start pinning your task to your tray! So, you’ll have your favorites bookmarked at the top, and then the task tray spread out like mini tabs at the bottom.
It’s good practice to always set your Daily Method of Operations on your task tray so that you can easily toggle between tasks. You can find a template in my ClickUp playbook, so make sure download your copy.
Pain Point #3:
ClickUp isn’t very good for designing or content planning, I can’t make it pretty like Trello.
Pinned images on tasks, ideal for content planning and designing products.
When you upload an image to a task, you can pin that image and it will show as the task featured image. Then when you have your tasks at a board view, the pinned image will act as a banner for that specific task.
Pain Point #4:
One of my admin users deleted an entire view, folder, list, or doc! We had to recreate the entire thing.
First of all, please put a management process in place. This will help ensure that only the key team members have the access to important views, folders, lists, and docs.
As for the solution for this extreme circumstance, it helps to know that you can find it in your trash bin and restore the accidentally deleted items. Everything that has been deleted in the last 30 days will show up in your trash bin.
Note: Guests don’t have access to restore items from the trash bin.
- To access the Trash bin, go to the bottom left-hand side of your ClickUp window and click on your use profile.
- Select the workspace you want to restore the deleted item from, selct Trash, it will direct you to a new page where all the deleted items over the last 30 days are listed.
- Choose the item you want to restore by clicking on the ellipsis (. . .) to the right-hand side of the deleted item beside the ‘DELETED BY’ column.
Pain Point #5:
I’m using sprints and want to see specific tasks in the sprint and inside a bigger project tracking folder. But there are too many tasks to add one by one!
Select All Tasks (List view) for Multi toolbar:
> Select all, add to another list
This is a total game changer when working with assigning many tasks especially when fixing your statuses and stages. (I have a guide on that if you need to fix those: How to ClickUp: Statuses and Stages the RIGHT Way).
Pro Tip: You cannot assign time estimates using the multi-tool bar to tasks, so make sure you put these into your templates to keep consistency and eliminate the manual effort of adding them in each time.
Pain Point #6:
My team can’t keep track of everything they need to do when they first start their day or have a hard time prioritizing tasks. They’re jumping back and forth to their calendar and ClickUp and never see their assigned comments or mentions.
Go to the Home area. This provides an overview of all the To do (ex. the tasks that’s due TODAY, OVERDUE, NEXT, UNSCHEDULED), Comments, Done, and Delegated. You can also add your most important tasks to your LineUp™ which is a new ClickUp feature. You can use these to view tasks, drag tasks to schedule them, all in one area!
